Beautiful Naeroyfjord Hiking Elopement | Vikky + Arthemes

THE COUPLE AND THEIR DECISION TO PLAN A HIKING ELOPEMENT AT Naeroyfjord
Where would you travel for your dream elopement? Would you brave rugged mountain trails, get your boots muddy, and hike through the clouds? That’s exactly what Vikky and Artheme did! They met in 2011, and soon, they couldn’t imagine a day apart. Years later, Artheme proposed to Vikky on the highest slopes while on a holiday ski trip edge of one of them. Their journey to Norway for an epic elopement was just another chapter in their adventures!
What Vikky & Arthemes shared with us: “We always dreamed of exploring Norway’s fjords—a country of stunning contrasts, with its rugged climate and lush natural landscapes. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect backdrop for our photos! Over three days, we hiked through the rain and even trekked across the highlands with our photographer in late August to take our elopement photos. Despite getting little sleep, the adventure was beyond worth it, creating memories that will last a lifetime!“
Vikky & Artheme’s 3 days Hiking Elopement at Naeroyfjord and Highlands
This adventurous elopement was shot in August 2016. We planned this whole trip together with the couple, as V+A said they trusted us so much that we could go anywhere and it would be good. So we traveled around the Westfords and the whole Bergen region for the shoot! We drove around the region a lot, slept so little (all because of tunnels being reconstructed), walked on snow in the Highlands (yes, there is still snow there even in August!), and the couple even hiked in their wedding attires to the height of 1000m from seas level (that was tiring, but so worth it)!

Top 7 Tips for a Great Hiking Elopement
A hiking elopement is a beautiful way to celebrate love in nature, and thorough and thoughtful planning is definitely key. Here are seven top tips for an unforgettable hiking elopement from an experienced photographer and planner:
- Choose Your Dream Elopement Destination
Select a spot that resonates with you as a couple. Consider scenic landscapes like the mountains of the Dolomites, waterfalls of Iceland, but also factor in accessibility, elevation, and the difficulty of the trail. If you’re new to hiking, opt for a moderate route that won’t be too strenuous but still offers stunning views. - Time It Perfectly
Sunrise and sunset hikes create breathtaking lighting and magical photos. Consider the time of day that aligns with your vision, and check how long the hike will take to ensure you arrive at the perfect moment. Sunrise offers solitude and tranquility, while sunset might allow for more leisurely preparation. - Dress Smart
Opt for comfortable yet stylish attire that suits both the occasion and the hike. Lightweight wedding dresses with movement are ideal, and sturdy hiking boots will ensure your comfort on uneven terrain. For grooms, lightweight suits or more casual attire paired with durable shoes are great. Don’t forget layers, as mountain weather can be unpredictable. - Bring the Essentials
Pack a small backpack with elopement necessities: water, snacks, first aid, a map or GPS, and your vows. Also includes practical items like sunscreen, bug spray, and tissues. A headlamp is useful if your elopement starts early in the morning or ends after sunset. - Hire a Photographer in love with Adventures
Find a photographer experienced in hiking and outdoor elopements, like yourself! They’ll know how to capture the best lighting and scenery while being comfortable with the physical demands of the day like hiking to some epic viewpoint or location for a vow ceremony. Plus, they’ll have the gear and knowledge to get creative with unique shots in nature. - Prepare for the Weather
Always have a backup plan in case of unexpected weather changes. Bring weather-appropriate gear like jackets, umbrellas, or ponchos. Check the weather forecast in advance, but be prepared for last-minute changes, especially in mountainous areas. - Make It Personal
Since a hiking elopement is all about creating an intimate and personal experience, weave in elements that reflect your relationship. Incorporate special rituals, bring a picnic for after the vows, or include your pets. This is your day—make it as unique as your journey together.
A hiking elopement combines adventure with the romance of nature, and with a little preparation, it can be the perfect start to your marriage!
