Jaw-Dropping Katla Ice Cave Adventure Wedding in Iceland

Lara + Corey

The Couple and Their Decision to Plan A Katla Ice Cave Adventure WEDDING
When it came to planning their future Katla Ice Cave adventure wedding, Corey and Laura had one main priority – a love celebration that woudl be both adventurous and intimate. Drawn in by our Icelandic elopements and adventurous weddings on Instagram, they dreamed of a day steeped in raw nature and unforgettable moments.
“There were two reasons we chose Iceland as our adventure wedding destination. Firstly, this beautiful country was our first trip together, a journey that sparked many of our treasured memories. Every waterfall, glacier, and sheep reminds us of those early days of discovering the world and each other. Secondly, and most importantly, Iceland is where our love story truly began.”– Corey
And we cannot blame them for that! Being destination elopement photographers, traveling the world, and seeing so many epic destinations like Norway, beautiful Italian Dolomites, or even jaw-dropping Switzerland, we’re still obsessed with the beauty of the land of Vikings! Even if this isn’t enough (which surely is!) the diverse, dramatic landscapes of Katla National Park and its stunning volcanic terrain, the Solheimajokull glacier itself, and especially the magic of the Katla ice cave, ultimately captured their hearts.
After months of preparations for their wedding day together with us and the Pink Iceland team, Corey and Laura knew exactly what they wanted: a beautiful wedding that would include natural elegance with a spirit of adventure. Having over a decade of local elopement photography experience we were happy to collaborate and co-craft this dream.
“I immersed myself in vision boards to merge all my varied inspirations into one cohesive theme – a natural, overgrown woodland feel that somehow felt both ethereal and wild.”
– Laura
From a Secret waterfall wedding ceremony to kissing inside the unique Katla Ice cave, This Is How to have an adventure Wedding Experience in Iceland
The beautiful day started with an intimate and very emotional getting ready at Hotel Katla. We were almost crying, witnessing and photographing these touching moments and emotions of joy and happiness starting from the parents first seeing Laura on their wedding day in the gorgeous dress, finishing Laura & Corey’s first looks near the hotel. The whole day of the wedding was filled with moments that felt straight out of a dream. The highlight? Of course, their journey into the Katla ice cave.
“Oh my gosh, the ice cave was the most unforgettable moment of our wedding day. There we were, in our full wedding attire – yes, I did it in my wedding dress – exploring a magical frozen cathedral!”
– Laura
“We donned crampons to navigate the icy terrain, and every step revealed a new marvel. That experience perfectly captured our spirit as a couple – always ready to embrace adventure together.”
– Corey
This extraordinary adventure delivered everything they were hoping for: intimacy, mindblowing adventure, and the kind of raw natural beauty that only the land of ice can offer. The most incredible highlight for us as photographers – is surely a super jeep tour with several river crossings followed by a secret waterfall wedding ceremony. Soulds like a magic, right?!
Best Time Time of Year to Plan an Ice Cave Wedding or Elopement:
Once planning an ice cave wedding in Iceland, the time of year really matters! Mainly because of the very fast ice malting in the summertime, it’s simply not safe to enter ice caves in Iceland during this period. The possible time of the year to get married in the ice cave is typically from November until May.
The best time to visit is usually November to the beginning of January. However, we’ve photographed weddings in May or even June. Just like Laura & Corey you’ll need to hire a local guide and a special vehicle to reach the most secluded and far away ice caves in Iceland.
