Madeira wedding – legal part

How to Elope in Madeira

Many couples choose to legally marry in their home country before heading to Madeira for their ceremony. If you prefer to legally marry in Madeira, plan ahead and allow extra time, especially for a summer wedding in Madeira.

Getting Legally Married in Madeira

Booking early and completing the paperwork in advance is crucial. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Photocopies of Passports: You’ll need copies of both you and your partner’s passports. The originals must be shown to the Registrar on your wedding day.
  • Birth Certificates: Both partners must provide International Birth Certificates, issued within the last six months. These can be obtained from your local registry office.
  • Divorce or Death Certificates (if applicable): If either of you has been previously married, you’ll need to provide proof of divorce or a death certificate.
  • Certificate of No Impediment: This document confirms that there are no legal obstacles to your marriage. It must be translated into Portuguese.
  • Power of Attorney (Procuração): If necessary, you may need to grant someone legal authority to handle paperwork on your behalf.
  • All documents must be certified with an Apostille Stamp to verify their authenticity.
  • Documents must be translated into Portuguese, either in your home country or once you arrive in Madeira.

Once you’ve completed the ceremony, your marriage license will typically be issued within 2-3 business days. To make the process easier, consider hiring a local consultant for planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely yes! But it’s a long process that needs time and preparation. We advise hiring a local wedding planner who helps you at every stage of this process.

We guide ourselves by openness and empowerment. Your elopement isn’t just any day—it’s your wedding day, a chapter of your life story that will stay with you forever. It symbolizes the start of something new, with lasting meaning for your future.

You deserve a photographer who truly resonates with you, someone you trust to capture the fleeting moments that will become cherished memories.
While we’d be honored to be your Madeira Wedding Photographers, we strongly encourage you to explore different options. Take the time to look through portfolios, read reviews, and have conversations with photographers. This will give you a clear sense of their style and how they can bring your vision to life. Each photographer’s approach is like their signature, reflecting their unique perspective.
Our focus is on delivering an intentional experience and creating photographs that are not only beautiful but meaningful. We’re with you every step of the way, supporting you throughout your journey.
Ultimately, we believe in the significance of your story—what sets you apart and what you hold dear—rather than conforming to trends or appearances.

Absolutely! Elopements aren’t just about running off or keeping things under wraps. They’re about creating an experience that allows you to enjoy the entire day with the people who mean the most to you. That’s why we view elopements and intimate weddings as one and the same.
From our experience, keeping the guest list to around 30 tends to offer a more relaxed and stress-free celebration. However, if you’re thinking of inviting more than 30 guests, we’re more than happy to chat and find the perfect location and plan to ensure you have an incredible experience and unforgettable photos.

You can elope for as little as 0$ (having a symbolic vow ceremony somewhere beautiful), or spend $20,000+ if you include various vendors, venues, and other details. The total cost depends on the kind of experience you’re looking for and the size of your guest list. At the very least, you’ll need wedding attire and a photographer.

Our elopement packages start at 5,500 Euros. For more information on what’s included and how we can assist you, please contact us.

Most of our elopements typically last between 6 to 10 hours, but the exact duration depends on the number of locations you want to explore, your guest count, and the activities you want to include on your special day.

A half-day elopement typically lasts 6 to 8 hours. If you want to capture both sunrise and sunset or visit multiple spots, a full day (10+ hours) might be more suitable. For those looking to combine a full wedding experience with guests and a separate day for an intimate elopement, we offer two-day packages.

f you have any questions or are ready to start planning, just send us a message, and let’s make your dream day a reality!

Adventure elopements don’t always require a hike. We believe that a stunning elopement day can be just as magical without any hiking process.
However, if hiking is your passion, we’re ready with our hiking boots and some snacks to share. But if hiking isn’t your thing, we can help you find accessible locations that are perfect for you and your guests.

Mountain elopements can involve anywhere from a minimal walk to up to 6 miles. Waterfall elopements usually require a 1 to 2-mile hike. Locations in Madeira often don’t need hiking, but we’ll prepare you with an elopement checklist to ensure safety and advice on what to pack and prepare for your adventure elopement day.

For those who do want to hike, we recommend keeping it to no more than 2-3 miles each way. Hiking for an elopement is different from a casual hike, as you’ll be carrying gear and outfits that you wouldn’t typically have on a regular hike.

  1. Once you decide that eloping is the right choice for you, reach out to us through our contact page.
  2. We’ll arrange a call to get to know each other better and provide you with valuable insights, details, and tips.
  3. After we determine the best date for optimal weather at your dream location, we’ll prepare a contract to secure that date.
  4. We’ll then move into planning mode together to ensure that every aspect of your elopement is personalized and customized to your vision and needs.

It’s as easy as it sounds—trust us! 😊
