The Couple and Their Decision to Plan A Glacier Adventure Elopement
When it came to planning their Solheimajokull Glacier elopement, Kailey & Matt had one main priority – a secluded and adventurous elopement experience. The couple was following our travels and adventures on Instagram for a pretty long time before planning their own Iceland elopement experience. First, they were even thinking about eloping in the Dolomites, having an intimate elopement in Norway or somewhere in Europe, since they were planning to have an Italian honeymoon after the elopement day, but the diversity of the landscapes and nature is truly what made them choose Solheimajokull and Iceland instead.
After careful planning based on our 12-year destination elopement photography experience, we finished by landing on a few stunning locations that would give them both what they were looking for – stunning views and the privacy they wanted. Keep scrolling to learn how we came to choose the locations for their Solheimajokull Glacier elopement, plus a couple of expert tips when it comes to getting as much privacy as possible for your adventurous elopement. The couple generously helped us co-writing this story of their elopement day, so scroll through, to learn how it was to elope with us!
A Seamless Elopement Experience
From the outset, working with us – Tony & Jane of ISKRA Photography – made planning feel effortless. With detailed recommendations for everything from florals and makeup to the perfect hidden locations, the couple recalls how our expertise smoothed every step of the process. “The process with Jane and Tony was so smooth, and they made communication and planning so easy. There wasn’t a single hiccup,” Kailey said.

From a Secret Canyon First look to walking by the hand atop a Sólheimajökull Glacier and seeing the incredible SUNSET for a Dyrholaey Cliff, This Is How to have an adventure Elopement Experience
On the day of their elopement, the land of fire & ice revealed its magic. In just one day, Kailey and Matt encountered a stunning mix of incredible natural gems: unique icelandic horses greeted them at the hotel they were getting ready at, a huge amount of cutest puffins at the shore, and jaw-dropping views that ranged from deep canyons to waterfalls that seemed to appear by magic.
We started the day with very intimate moments of getting ready at Bouqitue Hotel Anna, situated a bit away from all of the popular locations, but still not too far from them. Instead of a hotel, we suggested a secret canyon for their first look. This spot gave them a super private moment and beautiful photos.
Remember that the couple wanted to have a private day and most private ceremony experience? That’s why we planned to exchange vows at a stunning waterfall in a quiet area – no tourists disrupted it! This intimate moment was one of the highlights of their day.
We noticed their playful style from social media and encouraged them to capture fun photos of Kailey holding Matt—moments that truly showed their language of love. You won’t miss these photos if you keep scrolling 🙂
A Glowing Review
Reflecting on their experience, the couple couldn’t have been more effusive about working with us. “Tony and Jane were beyond incredible. They were quick to respond, detail-oriented, and genuinely caring—from planning to the very last snapshot. Every hidden gem was discovered thanks to their years of experience, and their sneak peeks and videos let us relive the magic over and over again.”
Tony and Jane were beyond incredible. They were quick to respond to our emails during our planning phase, detail-oriented, and were so helpful to recommend florals, makeup, and stays. This made booking everything and planning it all a breeze. When it came to the day of, they started by taking pictures before we even met as they saw a moment and used it. Beyond how talented they are, they are extremely sweet and personable. It was so easy to work with them and they made us feel most comfortable. They recommended spots and poses and gave us the opportunity to also do things we wanted. All of the spots they sent us they had checked out the day before and have years of experience to know all of the hidden gems. They sent us sneak peaks to share so quick and shared some videos of our day when we were done. I would recommend Iskra Photography to every single person who wants to elope.

Planning A Glacier Elopement? This is the Best Time of Year to Go
When planning a glacier elopement, the season you choose can completely change the feel of your special day. Below, we decided to give some tips about the differences to consider while planning your elopement day.
Summer Glacier Elopement
In summer, the weather is milder, making it easier to explore and enjoy every moment without the worry of biting cold. The long daylight hours mean you have plenty of time to capture beautiful moments during sunrise and sunset. During this season, the landscapes come alive with vibrant colors—a striking contrast between the icy blues and the greens of nature, and you might even see wildflowers and full-flowing waterfalls.
However, keep in mind that summer is a popular time for tourism, so you might encounter more people at well-known spots such as glaciers. In addition, most of the ice cave tours are temporarily stopped for safety reasons, making an ice cave elopement, for example, not possible unfortunately.
Winter Glacier Elopement
On the other hand, winter transforms the glacier into a quiet, almost magical wonderland. The soft, diffused light and long shadows give your photos a unique, dramatic quality that feels truly otherworldly. That said, winter comes with its own challenges—shorter days and colder temperatures mean you’ll need to bundle up and possibly adjust your schedule if the weather changes unexpectedly. Be ready for a buy times on the glaciers, as it’s the prime season for glacier tours and walks.
